For Clinical Labs
In today’s diagnostic landscape, laboratories must deliver fast, reliable, and cost-effective results despite staffing shortages, tighter regulations, and rising technical complexity.
In April 2020, Luton & Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital merged to form Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust lab is a leading provider of clinical pathology services in the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire areas, offering high quality diagnostic with a clear goal to provide the best hospital and pathology services.
1 The objective
Inline with their organizational goal, Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was searching for a new solution that would make it easier for them to verify new instruments and assays, investigate performance and facilitating inter laboratory comparison compared to existing spreadsheet-based approaches. One that would really help them:
Also, it was important that the solution could be used across pathology laboratories, on any computer and with unlimited users.
During their consideration phase, it became clear that Validation Manager was the one solution that could help them achieve all of this.

2 The solution

From concept to reality, Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust launched Validation Manager across their pathology laboratories. The results? Their validation/verification processes, which would typically be so complex, can now be completed by most of the staff levels.
Through the use of predefined projects and report templates, plan replications and an abundance of studies readily available within Validation Manager, the staff don’t have to start from scratch when carrying out new projects. Advanced mathematics and statistics skills are also no longer a bottleneck, as Validation Manager has already taken care of producing valid verification/validation reports. These two factors have supercharged efficiency.
“Validation Manager is intuitive and easy to use. The software gives prompt and comprehensible notifications if any issues pops up in our validation/verification processes. Thanks to this, we can resolve them quickly,” says Ana Teles, Clinical Biochemistry Section Lead, Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
3 The result

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is now using Validation Manager as a secure, web based data storage platform for pathology.
Since adopting Validation Manager, they have been able to “considerably reduce the amount of time spent on data organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation,” Ana says.
And as both the processes and final reports are ultimately standardized across the labs, the organization can truly trust their validation/verification processes and boost evidence-based decision making.
